About Us

Pastor Dr. Ron Mahood

Hi, I am the Senior Pastor of Vintage Park Community Church. Thank you for visiting our website. Let me introduce myself.

I was born June 21, 1949 in Patterson, N.J. I earned a baseball scholarship to Houston Baptist University in Houston, TX, where I received a teaching degree in History and Physical Education. While I was at college I was drafted by the Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals) as the 105th player chosen in the baseball draft that year.  I decided not to sign a baseball contract because of having a half of year of college left and getting married the same month: God had other plans for me!

In 1973, after teaching for a year in Englewood, N.J. I felt the call to leave for Okinawa, Japan; where I taught at Okinawa Christian School and was offered an Assistant Pastor position at Maranatha Baptist Church.  This was a ministry that reached out to the U.S. military families stationed nearby the church. In 1975, my wife and I felt the call to go into national work in Japan. We stayed on the mission field until my wife became ill and then returned back to the states. During the "70s" we had three children; Tricia, David and Daniel.

Upon returning, I took a church, Hudson View Baptist Church in Yonkers, N.Y., moved to South River, N.J. 5 years later, as God led us to Tabernacle Baptist Church in South River, N.J. I received my Masters of Theology in 1989 and Doctorate of Sacred Theology from Bethany Theological Seminary in 1991.

Unfortunately during this time breast cancer claimed Patty and she went home to be with the Lord at 39 years old.

After a mourning period, the Lord led me to Bellrose Baptist Church in Queens, N.Y. While there the Lord led me to meet a wonderful woman, Charlene Chapman. We were married in 1993 and have a daughter, Chayna, who married Michael in 2016.

The Lord led us to Vintage Park Community Church shortly after our marriage and we have been thrilled to be used by the Lord here.  I love teaching the Bible and delve deeply in the Word of God. I feel that many churches today place too much emphasis on entertainment and preaching, the Word becomes an afterthought.
I love to preach and teach the Word of God and "rightly divide the Word of Truth". The catch phrase we use is: Where the Bible is Understood.  Come visit us today.
